2003 was an atypically hot year across Europe. This resulted in some less renowned wine areas being able to make some atypically great wine at a great price. I've found some great values from Bordeaux Superior, such as the Chateau Cadillac, with its aromatic intensity, delicious (yet restrained) fruit, and perfect balance. Château Cadillac is a 13th century estate near Fronsac in Bordeaux, France. The wines produced here are affordable, everyday table wines in regional blends. The signature red is a Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon and the white is Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon. Cadillac also produces a “modern” range of wines that are more fruit-forward expressions of the same grapes, as well as a rosé.

This top cuvée from Château Cadillac has great fresh black currant fruits, dark plum skins and sweet tannins. It is also very obviously aged in wood, and this element needs to calm down. Wait another year, or decant now.
Located in the Fronsac vicinity, the Lesgourgues family has been fashioning delicious wines that are drinkable upon release. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, it's the former variety that, not surprisingly, dictates this wine's softness and drinkability. No hard edges, and no reason not to make this your house red wine.
The owner of LEDA (L'Expression de L'Authentique), Jean-Jacques Lesgourgues, has spared no expense in establishing a state of the art winery, with individual temperature, controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation. His wine is a beautiful expression of Merlot-dominated Bordeaux, smooth and elegant, delivering a taste experience equivalent to wine three times the price.
