This bottle was part of a lot I bought on www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/42890.I bid on this because I had previously had the 2004 vintage which I thought superb. In the 1950's 16 wines of Graves were classified as grand cru as a marketing exercise and this included Chateau Bouscaut both red and white. In 1987,however,the northern part of what was the Graves appellation including Chateau Bouscaut and most of the more prestigious properties became the Pessac-Leognan appellation. The Chateau Bouscaut estate dates back to the 16th century but in 1980 it was aquired by Lucien Lurton whose family own several Bordeaux properties. The 1997 vintage consists of 63%merlot,27%cabernet sauvignon and 10% malbec so it is not quite the same as the 2004.I started my bottle the other night with my supper of chicken in mushroom sauce and I enjoyed it.There is plenty of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum style fruit there and the tannins give structure without being intrusive. It is not as intense as the 2004 but still a first class claret.
