Chateau Bonnet Bordeaux 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A bit raw woody on the nose with attractive if discrete underlying plummy fruit that has some peppery and floral accents to it. Smooth and simple in the mouth with integrated acidity and soft tannins that roll over the tongue with the plummy and violet tinged fruit. Clean with lovely black currant and herbal notes on the moderately long and aromatic finish, this remains a bit foursquare in the mouth and even a bit clumsy on the nose with it’s oaken aromas and with wood tannins in the mouth that dry out the finish. 84pts

André Lurton:
A respect for the typicity of our terroir whilst at the same time always searching for a modernity of style. A respect for the past and the accumulated experience of the region but equally the same respect for our current consumers and their expectations in terms of wine style and quality. We firmly believe in developing technological innovations that allow us to move towards the twin goals of quality and price accessibility.

This wine shows promise with the "barnyard" and jami-ness present in the nose ...and the first notes of cedar are intriguing as well-- but the finish disappoints...though it's a drinkable wine, to be sure. Nice with grilled meats.

Andre Lurton Chateau Bonnet Bordeaux Rouge 2005 750ML

External Review
Vintage: 2005 01/29/2010

Famous Bordeaux vintner, Andre Lurton inherited the centuries old Chateau Bonnet from his grandfather in 1956. Since then he has taken careful measures to improve the property both in the vineyards and in the winery. As a result Chateau Bonnet is world renowned for producing fine quality wines that are excellent values. And this 2005 red is a prime example. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot from 19 year old vines. The grapes ripeness and quality were superb as was the rule for this historic vintage. Vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks the wine was then aged for 12 months in oak barrel, 25% new. A light egg white fining was done before bottling and the wine shows ideal balance and intensity with ripe cassis and dark chocolate flavors. Drinks beautifully now and will continue to evolve over the next 4-8 years. These remarkable 2005 Bordeaux are disappearing fast. This is one to grab onto.
