he color is dense dark mulberry purple and the aroma is fresh, clean and reserved with an overlay of new oak. The wine is somewhat severe now with tannins and acidity that wrap it up tightly, yet there is real substance hidden within. Another excellent Beychevelle following the superb 2005. Tasted from barrel April '07. By early '09, Beychevelle has been "tamed" by barrel maturation, showing a fine restrained aroma with delicate fruit qualites. The palate is medium weight but highly expressive for a you ng wine, offering high toned aromatics in a very long finish. A model of finess, the '06 Beychevelle will give pleasure early in its life. Château Beychevelle is a prestigious great growth steeped in three centuries of history. Beychevelle was the fiefdom of the Ducs d'Epernon. The first duke, Jean Louis Nogaret de la Valette, French Grand Admiral, wielded enormous power. According to legend, all ships had to lower theirs sails as they sailed past the Château in hommage to its powerful owner. This accounted for the name Baisse-Voile, which changed to Beychevelle over the years. Built in the 17th century and reconstructed by the Marquis de Brassier in 1757, Château Beychevelle is one of the jewels of the entire Bordeaux region. Maintaining a wonderful balance between power and finesse, Beychevelle's wine reflects its elegant architecture. The château places great emphasis on environmental protection and health, and earned both Agriculture Raisonnée ("Sustainable Agriculture") and "Terra Vitis" certification in 2005.

With lovely unctuous fruit and silky concentration, this<br/>surprisingly powerful 2006 is a revelation. General Manager Philippe Blanc has<br/>plans to replant some of his Merlot with Cabernet in the future and it is no<br/>coincidence that the success of this focused, sexy 2006 has the lowest amount<br/>of Merlot (29%) and the highest amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) ever. Snap<br/>this up before the prices start going the same way.<br/>
