Château Belle-Vue Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting notes This small vintage continues to seduce us by its brightness and its potential. The 2009 pursues a very beautiful series. Thanks to an important proportion of verdots (20 %), it shows a very good righteousness and a freshness. The mouth is ample, fleshy and deep, on beautiful notes of black fruits, and finale brings a welcome salt touch. Harmonies Grilled meats, white meats, duck breast

Acquired by Vincent Mulliez in 2004, Château BELLE-VUE results from a terroir whose history merges with that of the wine of Bordeaux. Located on the commune typically “médocaine” of Macau, yesterday seat of an active shipping industry, now famous for its vineyards, this vineyard knows a true rebirth. Château BELLE-VUE enjoyed a very good reputation from the 19th century and won many awards: Gold medal in Amsterdam in 1895, as well as silver medals in Brussels (1897), Paris (1900) and Bordeaux (1907). Over the last vintages, notably since 1999, the wines of Château BELLE-VUE have been regularly distinguished with honours and medals in wine competitions and in the international press. The 10 hectare vineyard is located on a plateau with deep gravely soil (7-10 metres) adjacent to Château Giscours (Margaux AOC). The soil is naturally well drained, enabling the grapes to ripe early. Made from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 18% Petit Verdot, the 2002 exhibits a fragrant perfume of flowers, cedar, black currants, cherries, and blue fruits. Medium-bodied with sweet tannin, a lush entry, and a moderately tannic finish, this serious 2002 should drink well young yet age nicely for a decade. This interesting estate, which has been pushing the envelope of quality, is under the radar of most consumers, but it deserves a serious look by those wanting to maximize their purchasing power.
