Château Bela is old residence of Ullmann family (photos 1,2 and 4). Castle is located in Southern Slovakia wine growing area, near to Slovak-Hungarian border. First vintage offered under it's label was harvested in 2001. It was the result of joint venture between wine maker Egon Müller, and Ullmann family. Today quality of Château Bela is protected by two wine makers, Egon Müller, and Miroslav Petrech. Château Bela belongs to Štúrovo region (12 km. from Štúrovo city), which lies in the eastern part of Southern Slovakia wine growing area. Wine varietals used in Château Bela are Rhine Riesling, and Cabernet Sauvignon. They grow near Mužla village (4 km.). Apart from traditional white Riesling, Château Bela produces straw wine, and ice wine. First harvest for ice wine took place in the first week of January 2009 (photo 3). Miroslav Petrech predicts that this first vintage will give 200-250 liters of ice wine. Different wines under Château Bela label are being sold in Europe, Australia and USA. Producer describes his own wine by these words: “While the 2003 wine was rather mighty due to the hot year, the 2004 wine comes very close to Egon Müller’s ideal wine. The 2006 wine continues along the qualitative lines of its predecessor, and – although still very young – is already very harmonious. An expressive, very personal Riesling, which is fascinatingly tantalising and enduring, but at the same time very refined, with finesse and elegance.” Read less
