Château Bel Air Haut-Médoc 2009

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Yoursquo;ve tasted it twice and think ldquo;Wow! She really splurged on this winerdquo; mdash; au contraire, Pierre. For under $10 you may have dark ruby color, perfumey Cabernet Franc on the nose, clean soft entry with deep full-bodied cherry and blackberry and cinnamon spice. Fine tannins and a fine price. Highly recommended.

Owned by the Martin family (who also own Gloria), this dense ruby/plum-colored sleeper of the vintage displays oodles of fruit as well as some notes of Christmas fruitcake and roasted herbs along with loads of cassis. Tasty, round, generous, and ripe, this 2009 has a lot going for it. Drink it over the next 5andndash;6 years.

This has some lively and interesting fruit aromas and a touch of oak. The style is rich and soft with good acidity and firm tannins. The wine is nicely textured, with dark fruit and a touch of spice in the finish. The wines of the 2005 vintage are coming into their peak and are very approachable now. Serve this wine with a hearty beef stew or French onion soup.

A sweet perfume of black fruits intermixed with licorice and vanilla lead the bouquet, offering great fruit purity with a concentrated finish. The flavors of dark, ripe cherries and rich plums makes it a good match with skirt steaks, hand-formed sirloin burgers with melted American cheddar, and thin crust pizza topped with mozzarella, thinly sliced veal sausage and green peppers.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. Dark fruit, lead pencil, cassis and wood on the nose. The flavors are concentrated and ripe with cherry and plum notes and the finish is full and satisfying. A terrific value! Serve it with red meats, pork loins in a brown mushroom gravy and with panko breaded tilapia.

Proof that a great winemaker can make delicious wines even in less than celebrated vintages, this is classically styled, with balance and structure at the forefront. Full-flavored, with lots of earth and spice, firm tannins and a long, dry finish. Best with hearty meat and vegetable dishes, especially game meats.
