Chateau Beaumont 2016

Member Review by zufrieden:

Here is another fine unclassified growth from the Haut-Medoc... garnet red in presentation, with an enticing and "correct" claret nose of cassis, cedar plank, and blackberry with a hint of pencil lead. Entry is youthful, but elegant and balanced with Himalayan Blackberry, cherry and vanilla; Finish is long, elegant and satisfying with well-intergraded oak seasoning. Will last five more years at least. 90.

Rote Beeren in der Nase, leider ein sehr starker Alkoholgeschmack im gaumen. Etwas zu aggressiv. Abwarten!

A great value from Haut Medoc. A chocolate and vanilla nose. Soft and elegant with lots of sweet red berry fruit and beautiful tannins on the finish. This is a simple wine, but its very good. If only all Haut Medoc could be this good (and reasonably priced).

The nose is reminiscent of raspberry-chocolate coffee. Color is typical of the region - dark, transluscent cherry-red. Entry is pleasant - if lightweight mid-palate. Tannins are soft and the wine is drinking well redolent with soft, slightly acidic red fruit scent and flavor. For a property producing in excess of 600,000 bottles per vintage, this is a very clean, pleasing, early-drinking wine. Highly recommended for the price (19 dollars in Canada; somewhat cheaper in the USA).

Color is very dark and rich. The nose is somewhat muted but I detect hints of dark fruits. On the palate the tannins are well integrated with the dark fruits along with a hint of vanilla. Although the finish was rather short, the wine does have fairly nice structure. I should have decanted this for at least an hour. This might have produced more aromas.

The first few sips weren't that great, but once the edgy tannins and high alcohol part away on the palette, it reveals an inner delicacy and complexity, with mild plum, mineral, and grasses.

Beerig-Fruchtige Aromatik. Geschmeidige, weibliche, glatte Struktur. Abgerundete Tannine. Ein Wein voller Charme und Finesse.

Ch. Beaumont is produced in a classic style. There are 105 hectares of vineyard planted on well drained, deep and gravelly soils. The vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), with 35% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine shows plump, ripe fruit and a great structure.
