Château Barde-Haut Red Bordeaux Blend St. Émilion Grand Cru 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"A dark ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of black cherries, crushed rocks, flowers, and subtle oak, moderate tannin, excellent ripeness, and a long finish. This charming, medium to full-bodied St.-Emilion offers plenty of punch and depth. If additional complexity emerges, it will merit an outstanding rating. It is *a sleeper of the vintage*." --Robert Parker

The 2004 Barde-Haut has depth and power beyond its mid-rank status. The Merlot shines though with good concentration albeit with just a touch too much oak. The oak, however, dissipates rapidly after 10-15 minutes exposure to the air to reveal a well-rounded, balanced wine with excellent color and decent (medium) finish. This wine still could use 2-4 years bottle aging but is drinking quite well now. Good value.
