Member Review by rlb4227:

Not much nose. Decent flavor but heavy and dry. Some blackberry but poor flavor and no spice.

Black fruit and graphite on the nose, full-bodied, with some meat, peppery and cloves notes to go with the fruit on the palate. More complex than the nose would suggest, with low-medium acidity and light tannins. Very easy drinking at a good price.

On the lighter side, with modest blackberry and currant fruit lingering against some crisp tannins. Drink now through 2014.

A project of Charles Smith and Charles Bieler, this easy-drinking, approachable red is a low-budget expression of a popular blend. The sweet cherry fruit is lightly candied, and it bears a strong scent of toast. The flavors are simple, juicy and quite pretty, with a streak of fresh cut tobacco.

THE PROJECT - A collaboration between Food & Wine Magazine 2009 Winemaker of the year Charles Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines & Magnificent Wine Co) and Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, BIELER Pere et Fils and Sombra mezcal), this project isnt short on personality. The first release this past spring was a single vineyard '08 dry Rosé that was amongst the highest scoring domestic rosé of the season, and the project continues with a dark, brooding and textured cabernet sauvignon and syrah blend that is already capturing the same excitement as the rosé. THE WINE - 2007 vintage. 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% syrah. All the fruit is grown in the Wahluke Slope AVA (Columbia Valley) by the Milbrandt family. The wine is dark, almost black, with a brooding nose of blackberry, cranberry, tobacco and sweet oak. The fruit carries through on the palate where you also find great texture, soft tannins and a long finish. The cabernet sauvignon was raised in 1---3 year old French oak barrels and the syrah was fermented and aged in stainless steel. THE LABEL is an abstract play on the American Flag and done by the famous Nashville, TN letter press poster shop, Hatch Show Print. With this red blend we changed the stripes from pink to the official red color of the American Flag.
