50% Ornato, 70% aged in botte Tight on the nose with floral aromas, a hint of wood spice, the sweet savoriness of fruitcake and dates and a bit of candied orange and lime rind. Showing a fair amount of power up front and fairly fruity in the classic dried fruit way, this has round ripe tannins and nice acidic cut on the palate. There’s good complexity on the palate finishing a touch dull perhaps and with tannins that are a touch dry, leathery, and very classic style, this does retain fine wild cherry fruit, rosehips, and vitamin flavor. growing in the glass and gaining some menthol freshness, this remains a bit tough though it seems to have the stuffing to evolve well. 88pts

AWE blind tasting - sweet dried wood tones on the nose, leathery, nice precise fruit, dark fruit, cool in the mouth, good focus, spicy, menthol, floral tones, tight coiled and with good length 86-87

This offered a great contrast to the Conterno with it's open nose balancing sweet, slightly pruny fruit with a gentle wood spice. Offering a bright entry with excellent acidity this was eminently drinkable and approaching peak if a touch monolithic and dilute through the midpalate with a bit of astringency breaking through leading to a medium length finish that was long if simple. Solid wine for drinking over the short term

This was a lovely showing for this bottle with a beautiful mahogany color tinged with cedar red. The nose was very typical with licorice, dried floral notes and lovely candied strawberry. On the tongue there is immediate bottle sweetness that combined with the balanced, resolved structure made this luxurious if a touch drying on the back end. This retains the remnants of powerful strawberry fruit over light soil tones and while a touch simple is admirably rich and oh so friendly if a bit short.

Barolo Pio Cesare 2005 is just a bit better than this СДЕЛАТЬ САЙТ ПЕТРОЗАВОДСК

I found the aroma to be very attractive and fruity scent. However, I felt the wine tastes a bit "light" and water-down. I don't know if that was because I brought it overseas via loading inside a luggage.

Just a baby, but incredibly delicious. Moderate to big tannin, decanted for less than an hour. Quite aromatic, classic violets and tar. Ripe flavors, concentrated. Opens up very slowly, but it does open up. I would wait at least another five years to open another bottle.

Good wine, not a typical Nebbiolo though and the colour and fruit profile count against this 'Barolo' rating.

Hight acidity, intense tanins, full bodied. Dry fruits, dry roses, wood, pepper, truffle. Angular with awesome complexity. exceptional.

Spice, dark fruit. A little biting when bottle was opened. I let it sit in the fridge overnight and it turned into something wonderful. Decant and enjoy. Barolos are usually too acidic/tanic for my taste but this was great the next day.

[PJW] orange rind, rasp berry, BBQ, licorice. Great now, nice acidity and fruit will get better. Maybe the best of the tasting. 94

Pio Cesare Barolo is very fine and elegant in the 2008 vintage, with plum, bing cherry, and violet aromatics, super fine tannins, and a finish that goes on for minutes.

The 2007 Barolo is inviting, sweet and open, yet has plenty of underlying tannins to provide support. Sweet hints of tobacco, spices, leather and herbs add complexity on the textured yet grippy finish.

Year after year, Pio Cesare Barolos are ranked among the world's best. The Pio Cesare family takes a modern approach to quality winemaking. Their unique method stresses minimal intervention to produce wines of particularly supple flavor expression. The Nebbiolo grapes used to produce Pio’s Barolo come from the family vineyards around the village of Serralunga d’Alba. These grapes account for about 70% of production, with additional grapes sourced from the most favorable areas in Castiglione Falletto and Monforte, the same stock they have used for the last hundred years. The grapes from Serralunga give a full body, those from Castiglione Falletto offer an ethereal and tempting nose, and the fruits from Monforte provide class and a refined nature. Aged in 30% new French oak for 2 years the wine is then put in 50% new Slavonian oak for another 3 years. In the Wine Advocate, Antonio Galioni says "Pio Cesare’s straight Barolo doesn’t seem to get the attention or spotlight it deserves, but it has truly been one of Piedmont’s under the radar jewels for some time." And Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this wine 95 points saying "Pio Cesare and the 2007 vintage marry beautifully to produce a layered, opulent, textured, rich wine that is bursting with zesty red fruit, sassy spice, leather and toasted espresso bean. What really sets this wine apart is the dense smoothness of its texture. Save this bottle in your cellar 10 years or more."

The Pio Cesare family takes a modern approach to quality winemaking. Their unique method stresses minimal intervention to produce wines of particularly supple flavor expression. known primarily for Barolo they also produce first class Barbaresco like this 2006. The Wine Advocate scored this 91 Points saying "The 2006 Barbaresco is an attractive, mid-weight wine. Red berries, sweet spices and crushed flowers are some of the nuances that emerge from this plump, juicy Barbaresco. With a little air, this is already drinking quite nicely. Sweet notes from new oak linger on the pretty finish. The Barbaresco is aged in a combination of 65% cask and 35% smaller French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." Limited.

The Wine Advocate scored this 2006 94 points saying "The 2006 Barolo offers up a super-classic profile of tar, roses, raspberries and licorice, all wrapped around a firm core of tannins. Fresh and vibrant throughout, the Barolo impresses for its superb balance and poise. Deceptively medium in body, the wine sneaks up on the mid-palate, gaining more and more volume through to the finish. There is the subtlest hint of French oak that points to the slightly updated style the estate is going for with this bottling, but not enough to detract from the classic feel. This is a magnificent, impeccable Barolo from Pio Cesare, but it will be even better in a few years. The estate’s Barolo is made from a number of vineyards in Serralunga, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Novello and other villages. The wine is aged mostly in cask, although 30% sees French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031." Limited!
