Chappellet Vineyard Cervantes Mountain Cuvee Napa Valley 2014

External Review:

Tasting Notes: The aromas are rich and enticing, with concentrated layers of blueberry and blackberry, as well as notes of baking spice and toasted wood from aging in French oak barrels. Subtle hints of dark chocolate, bay leaf and black pepper round out the aromas. On the plush, rich palate, this wine is immediately hedonistic and satisfying. Mouthcoating avors of black cherry and cassis are layered with clove and vanilla, while integrated tannins give balance and structure to this complex blend of Bordeaux varietals. Alc: 14.9% TA: .58 g/100ML pH: 3.78

The Chappellets’ romance with Pritchard Hill started when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed its spectacular vistas. Perched 1,200 feet above the floor of the Napa Valley, the atmosphere at the Chappellet family's winery and Pritchard Hill estate vineyards is serene and peaceful. You can't help but fall in love with the breathtaking views and the gentle mountain Donn and Molly Chappellet made their home. The Chappellet family has been crafting world class wines from their Pritchard Hill estate vineyards since 1967. Spurred by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills and that mountain fruit would make superior wine, Chappellet followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. The Chappellets were the first to plant vineyards exclusively on high elevation hillsides and the second winery to be established in the Napa Valley after Prohibition. The foundation of Chappellet winemaking program is focused on creating extraordinary age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the unique characteristics of the fruit from Pritchard Hill. The rugged terroir of Chappellet's vineyards produces wines with great intensity and depth, qualities that define the world's finest wines. For four decades Chappellet wines have received high praise from wine critics and have been sought after by the world's premier collectors. Today the six Chappellet children share their parents’ romance with Pritchard Hill's complex rocky soils and magnificent views. They are passionate about preserving the land by using sustainable farming techniques and continuing what their parents started: making extraordinary wines that express the distinctiveness of Pritchard Hill. TASTING NOTES: The aromas are rich, ripe and enticing, with sweet fruit layers of plum, bing cherry and cassis, as well as notes of mocha, roasted coffee, cedar and baking spices, all supported by delicious hints of French oak. On the palate, this wine is supple and round, with balanced tannins, weighty texture and a smooth, mouthfilling structure. Though there are abundant ripe red and black fruit flavors, there is also an elegant complexity to this wine that comes from artful blending. Blend: 39% Cabernet Sauvignon 35% Merlot 12% Malbec 8% Petit Verdot 3% Cabernet Franc 3% Syrah THE WINE: Blended from the traditional Bordeaux varietals, including our own coveted grapes, the Chappellet Mountain Cuvee Proprietor’s Blend builds on our five decades of experience crafting great Napa County mountain-grown wines. Each component varietal in the cuvée contributes nuances that complement each other. The result is a complex array of aromas and flavors that deliver pure pleasure in a glass. Made for more near-term consumption, this is the wine to choose when you’re looking for vivid, mouthfilling fruit flavors. GROWING SEASON & HARVEST: The 2012 vintage offered fantastic growing conditions in Napa County. Significant rains in early March were followed by perfect weather during bloom and an excellent fruit set. Summer temperatures were also ideal. With no notable heat events, and no threat of rain, we were able to pick exactly when we wanted to, resulting in pristine, perfectly developed fruit with great balance and acidity. - Winery Alcohol: 14.5% TA: .54 g/100 ml pH: 3.73
