The Chappellets’ romance with Pritchard Hill started when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed its spectacular vistas. Perched 1,200 feet above the floor of the Napa Valley, the atmosphere at the Chappellet family's winery and Pritchard Hill estate vineyards is serene and peaceful. You can't help but fall in love with the breathtaking views and the gentle mountain Donn and Molly Chappellet made their home. The Chappellet family has been crafting world class wines from their Pritchard Hill estate vineyards since 1967. Spurred by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills and that mountain fruit would make superior wine, Chappellet followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. The Chappellets were the first to plant vineyards exclusively on high elevation hillsides and the second winery to be established in the Napa Valley after Prohibition. The foundation of Chappellet winemaking program is focused on creating extraordinary age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the unique characteristics of the fruit from Pritchard Hill. The rugged terroir of Chappellet's vineyards produces wines with great intensity and depth, qualities that define the world's finest wines. For four decades Chappellet wines have received high praise from wine critics and have been sought after by the world's premier collectors. Today the six Chappellet children share their parents’ romance with Pritchard Hill's complex rocky soils and magnificent views. They are passionate about preserving the land by using sustainable farming techniques and continuing what their parents started: making extraordinary wines that express the distinctiveness of Pritchard Hill. Not sure what happened with this wine, could've been some improper storage behind how this wine showed, but it was too oaky, and I didn't get much vibrance from the cabernet sauvignon. Will wait a while on my next bottle, maybe this still needs to get integrated further.

Spent time at the Chappellet winery. One of the gems of wine country. This wine had vibrant fruit flavors and a small hint of chocolate.

92 Points - Wine Spectator"Chappellet winery always seems to over-deliver on quality for the price, thanks in large part to the estates 100 acres of vines on Pritchard Hill, high above Napa Valley. The 2007 is a blend of 51 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 46 percent Merlot, with a dash of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine is rich and seamlessly mouthfilling yet complex and beautifully structured. Its ready to drink in the short term it brought out the best in the beef but will do fine in the cellar for a few years. I rated it 92 points, non-blind. It sells for $29, a bargain by most Napa standards."This is the wine to choose when youre looking for vivid, mouth-filling fruit flavors. Our Mountain Cuvee is a winemakers blend that beautifully expresses the distinctive qualities of the traditional Bordeaux varietals, and is crafted for early consumption. Each component making up the cuvee contributes nuances that mingle with and complement each other. The result is a complex array of aromas and flavors that deliver pure pleasure in a glass.

Vibrant aromas of blackberry, black cherry, dried fruit, and baking spices jump from the glass. In the mouth the wine is rich in dark fruit flavors, with hints of mocha and roasted coffee beans. Full, fairly big tannins are well integrated in the body and fruit character.

Dark cherry and blackberry mixed with coffee, cedar and spice make for a compelling nose. On the palate, the wine is plush and round with dark berry fruit carried along to the finish on soft, silky tannins. Another excellent 2007 release from Chappel... Alex Shaw. A dark, deeply colored wine that is black at the core with a brilliant purple rim. The nose offers a bouquet of violets, lavender, and sage, as well as secondary aromas of coffee, crushed rocks, and black pepper. Chewy on the palate--rich and compl... John Sweeney.
