Chappellet Chardonnay Napa Valley 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Blended around a core of Cabernet, but also includes a significant amount of Merlot to add suppleness and fruit. The 2010 Cervantes is dark and concentrated, with aromas of ripe cherry, berry fruit, cola, cedar and coffee, with supporting notes of sweet oak, anise and cassis. This full-bodied wine is packed with radiant tannins, mouthfilling sweet fruit, chocolate and baking spices. 2010 has produced a cellar-worthy Cervantes that will gain complexity with additional aging.

The Chappellets’ romance with Pritchard Hill started when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed its spectacular vistas. Perched 1,200 feet above the floor of the Napa Valley, the atmosphere at the Chappellet family's winery and Pritchard Hill estate vineyards is serene and peaceful. You can't help but fall in love with the breathtaking views and the gentle mountain Donn and Molly Chappellet made their home. The Chappellet family has been crafting world class wines from their Pritchard Hill estate vineyards since 1967. Spurred by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills and that mountain fruit would make superior wine, Chappellet followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. The Chappellets were the first to plant vineyards exclusively on high elevation hillsides and the second winery to be established in the Napa Valley after Prohibition. The foundation of Chappellet winemaking program is focused on creating extraordinary age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the unique characteristics of the fruit from Pritchard Hill. The rugged terroir of Chappellet's vineyards produces wines with great intensity and depth, qualities that define the world's finest wines. For four decades Chappellet wines have received high praise from wine critics and have been sought after by the world's premier collectors. Today the six Chappellet children share their parents’ romance with Pritchard Hill's complex rocky soils and magnificent views. They are passionate about preserving the land by using sustainable farming techniques and continuing what their parents started: making extraordinary wines that express the distinctiveness of Pritchard Hill. Very big nose with flowery, and fruit hits. A Big wine for a Napa Valley Chardonnay--more oaky vanilla or ML butter than I normally like. Also, not as acidic as I normally like. The best part is how it fills the mouth with flavor. This is going to go well with tonights roasted chicken. US$24.99 at Wine Club in Santa Ana

This effort is similar to Chappellet s past vintages with citrus and tropical fruit flavors tastefully accented by oak and brightened with a squeeze of lemony acidity. - S.H. Wine Enthusiast.

Tasting Notes:

The 2010 CERVANTES is dark and concentrated, with lovely aromas of ripe cherry, berry fruit, cola, cedar and coffee. Supporting notes of sweet oak, anise and cassis add brightness and nuance to the nose. On the palate, this full-bodied wine is packed with radiant tannins, mouthfilling sweet fruit, chocolate and baking spices. Though eminently drinkable now for its flashy youthfulness, 2010 has also produced a cellar-worthy CERVANTES that will gain complexity with additional aging.
