Dense and oaky at first with buttery notes and a deep whiff of coconut which integrates with air, allowing the pure core of simple yet intense black cherry and mineral fruit to emerge with time. Starting off a bit hollow, this fills in in the glass, showing freshly crushed black currant and black cherry fruit supported by earthy and medicinal flavors. The wood is present but well-judged and lessing in impact over the course of the evening. Not the best wine tonight but the wine with the best potential for improvement in the cellar. Give this three to five years and it should show quite well. 91pts

Pretty straw color in the glass. Light vanilla nose. Very nice drinking wine. Table grapes flavor. Would be nicer if it had a tad mor= acid, but, you know, that's the way I am. Not a big oaky chard, but it went nicely with our grilled ahi tuni... US$24.99 at Total Wine.

A fancy, rich Chardonnay, made in the California style. Chappellet has a good track record of producing 90-plus Chardonnays, and this andrsquo;09 continues that tradition. Itandrsquo;s rich in pineapple jam, Asian pear and sweet, oaky vanilla flavors, balanced with good acidity and a hint of minerality.
Inviting aromas of apple fruit and lusty, appealing buttery, toasty oak. Handsome blend of apple, peach, pear and vanilla flavors on the well-rounded palate. Finish displays an engaging perfume with spicy accents.
A delicious young Chardonnay that features layers of ripe, spicy pear, fig and honeydew melon, hints of hazelnut, nutmeg and citrus rind, and a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2008.

Tasted in the Spring of 2009, this Chard was immature, marked by fresh fruit acidity and flavors, as well as unintegrated oak. But it's quite good, and just needs time to allow the grilled pineapple, crème brûlée and buttered toast flavors to come together with the alcohol. Best 2010-2013.

Chappellet's Napa Valley Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown in the coolest regions of Napa Valley. Overlooking the San Pablo Bay, Kelly Ranch receives the benefits of the Bay's marine influences, creating optimal growing conditions for Chardonnay. Shallow soils composed of clay and gravel support low vigor vines with yields of only 2.5 tons per acre. The wine was aged on its lees for eight months in one-third new French oak barrels. For added texture and viscosity, a majority of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 91 points by Wine Spectator.
