Chappellet Cervantes Mtn Cuv10 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

The nose delivers an early blast of crushed fresh herbs, black currant fruit and very well-judged oak. Well-balanced and nearly seamless in the mouth with a slightly polished feel. The tannins are here but the almost gauzy blanket of black berry and plum fruit manages to conceal them right through until the finish. Even on the finish there is a sweetness to these tannins, an attractive gentleness that keeps them from detracting from the light, gently herbal and earthy core of lingering black fruit. Fairly large scaled yet elegant, this has the balance to age well beyond it's price point but is attractive today for it's fine, understated style. 89pts

The Chappellets’ romance with Pritchard Hill started when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed its spectacular vistas. Perched 1,200 feet above the floor of the Napa Valley, the atmosphere at the Chappellet family's winery and Pritchard Hill estate vineyards is serene and peaceful. You can't help but fall in love with the breathtaking views and the gentle mountain Donn and Molly Chappellet made their home. The Chappellet family has been crafting world class wines from their Pritchard Hill estate vineyards since 1967. Spurred by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills and that mountain fruit would make superior wine, Chappellet followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. The Chappellets were the first to plant vineyards exclusively on high elevation hillsides and the second winery to be established in the Napa Valley after Prohibition. The foundation of Chappellet winemaking program is focused on creating extraordinary age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the unique characteristics of the fruit from Pritchard Hill. The rugged terroir of Chappellet's vineyards produces wines with great intensity and depth, qualities that define the world's finest wines. For four decades Chappellet wines have received high praise from wine critics and have been sought after by the world's premier collectors. Today the six Chappellet children share their parents’ romance with Pritchard Hill's complex rocky soils and magnificent views. They are passionate about preserving the land by using sustainable farming techniques and continuing what their parents started: making extraordinary wines that express the distinctiveness of Pritchard Hill. Very aromatic with heather top notes over a base of lemon oil, butter, smoky grilled peaches, mango and hickory smoked aromas. Smooth, soft and opulent in the mouth, the low acidity here lends this a sweetness in the mouth that accentuates the ripe flavors of apple, pear and pineapple. Plenty of nutty and honey tones add complexity on the midpalate, with a touch of herbs and some waxiness popping on the moderately long, lemon citrusy finish which shows some heat. 89pts Acidity: Medium Low Perceived Sweetness: Low Oak: Medium Low Spicy Flavors: Low Savory Flavors: Medium Fruity Flavors: Medium Intensity of Flavor: Medium High Weight in Mouth: Medium High

This effort is similar to Chappellet s past vintages with citrus and tropical fruit flavors tastefully accented by oak and brightened with a squeeze of lemony acidity. - S.H. Wine Enthusiast.

Introduced by sweet blackberry flavors, this takes time to develop past an initial simplicity of fruit and oak. The tannins slowly develop textural detail, while the fruit gains complexity with a gamier edge. A fine Napa cabernet to order decanted at a steakhouse.

The nose is brimming with floral and tropical notes including ripe pineapple, guava and lemon zest. Hints of brown sugar and nutmeg spice from the barrel aging add complexity to the fruit. On the palate, this wine is toned and vibrant, with flavors of tropical fruit, alongside layers of quince and nectarine. French oak and creaminess from the malolactic fermentation contribute nuances of vanilla bean and crème brulée, with crisp acidity adding structure and length throughout. - WineryWine StatisticsHarvested- September 27-October 8, 2010Brix at Harvest- 24-24.6° Alcohol- 14.9% TA- 0.61 g/100 mlpH- 3.59 ** SOLD OUT **

Chappellet Cabernet is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character.

Chappellet Mountain Cuvee is called Cervantes in the 2010 vintage, however it stays true to the previous blends - a core of Cabernet with a significant amount of Merlot with a bit of Petit Verdot and Malbec rounding out the blend.

Combines richness with density and a tight core of pear, melon, green apple and light cedary oak flavors. This is raw and young, so give it time. The finish is complex, layered and nuanced. Drink now through 2018. -JL Wine Spectator. A Chardonnay wine from California in USA. 2010 Chappellet Chardonnay 750ml

Sturdy and rich, a classically proportioned Bordeaux-like expression of mountain-grown fruit. Dense and chewy, showing dark berry, currant, cedar and crushed rock notes, with a dash of black licorice woven in. Drink now through 2025.
