The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.
no surprise, an intense pleasure already just smelling this wine 2004 is already a great experience for a tasting, but it can wait many more years as well intense and complex
Old world earth dominates this lush rich wine. Balanced and well rounded with a touch of acidity and ripe berry at the back palate. A wine that truly has inspired other Syrah producers. Only downside is the price, and the vintages (as all French wines) varies.
Opens with a reticent core of meaty fruit and just a touch of wood then adding a bit of tobacco and hot rocks, becomes very fine and perfumed. Very pretty currant fruit in the mouth, seems particularly elegant coming after the previous wines and offers up a clarity and transparency those wines lacked. Zesty and clear as a bell with wild berry tones echoing through the mouth and into the long finish. Just coming into it's own this is delicious.

Michel Chapoutier was among the first in France to embrace the radical biodynamic agricultural teachings, for which he was initially criticized, but is now praised. He was also the first to print all his labels in Braille.
Big, broad-shouldered version, with loam, tobacco, currant paste and hoisin sauce notes out oin front of the formidable tannin structure. Dark, loamy and muscular through the finish, with a haymaker of black fruit and tarry grip. Best from 2010 throu... Wine Spectator.
