Chapoutier produced an outstanding 1998 Hermitage La Sizeranne. The dark purple color is followed by cassis and flowery (lilacs) aromas. Full-bodied, with moderate tannin, ripe, juicy black fruits, and the longest La Sizeranne finish since the 1990... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from Rhone in France. 1998 Chapoutier Hermitage la Sizeranne 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Grape variety Syrah. Soil Our Hermitage « Monier de la Sizeranne » grows on different types of soil, from West to East : - « les Bessards » : Granite origin. It forms the "soul" of a good Hermitage wine - « le Méal » : Old alluvial terrace, with a lot of gravels and rolled pebbles, more or less chalky - « les Greffieux » : Limon with rolled stones. Harvesting Hand harvesting at optimal maturity. Matching food with wines Venison fillet in red wine sauce. Beef rosted. Mature "Saint Félicien" cheese. Vinification The grapes ferment in open wooden vats after total destemming. Two daily treadings ensure a good extraction of the tannins. The temperature of fermentation varies between 26 and 32°C. Maturing Maturing takes place in oak casks, of which one third is new. Several rackings permit a slow and natural clarification process. This wine is unfiltered and unfined. Tasting Colour : Deep garnet red, with purple highlights. Noze : Red fruit (raspberry, blackcurrant), with a hint of liquorice. Mouth : Good attack, it is a round, elegant wine, soft and concentrated tannins, and a long aftertaste of blackcurrant and raspberry, spicy when it is young.
