Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois Proprietary Blend Wine 2013

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

More rich and serious the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is 100% Grenache that comes from mostly clay soils and 100-year-old vines. It offers up fantastic Grenache flare with sweet currants strawberry incense and spice all flowing to a voluptuously textured medium to full-bodied wine that has loads of fruit fine tannin and a great finish. While I suspect it will be hard to resist in its youth it will evolve for at least 10-12 years. Drink now-2024.

M. Chapoutier:
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.

Saturated ruby. Aromas of red berry preserves smoky minerals and potpourri are lifted by a suave spicy quality that carries through to the finish. Lush and sweet in the mouth offering spicy raspberry and floral pastille flavors along with a touch of spicecake. Closes silky and long with lingering mineral and floral notes. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Fresh and silky with a perfumy focused beam of cherry red currant and sandalwood notes lined with hints of shiso and tobacco leaf. The aromatic qualities linger through the stylish mineral- tinged finish. Best from 2016 through 2026.

Bright ruby. High-pitched red berry and floral aromas show very good intensity and a sexy spicecake nuance. Juicy penetrating and seamless offering vibrant raspberry and cherry flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Finishes lively and long with resonating spiciness. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

With more richness and depth and showing the classic fruit-forward and up-front profile of the terroir the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is 100% Grenache that comes from the southeastern part of the appellation. Loaded with notions of strawberries kirsch underbrush and garrigue it has medium to full-bodied richness with a supple fleshy and hedonistically styled feel on the palate. Vivid ruby-red. Sexy red fruit liqueur potpourri and Asian spice aromas show impressive power and an energetic pinot-like character. Sappy tangy and precise on the palate displaying lively raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of spicecake. Closes on a mineral note with superb clarity verve and length. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
