Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac Proprietary Blend Wine 2011

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

Slightly deeper in color the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac is a superb success in the vintage. Offering surprising richness and depth with a medium to full-bodied nicely concentrated feel on the palate it offers copious black cherry leather ground pepper and minerality on the nose. As with the other cuvees it is a forward fleshy vintage for the cuvee yet it possesses fine tannin terrific mid-palate depth and an all-around balanced harmonious feel that should allow it to age grace

M. Chapoutier:
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.

Vivid ruby. An exotically nose evokes cherry compote blackberry and smoky Indian spices. Fleshy sweet and concentrated with a distinctly spicy quality to it dark berry flavors. Impressively lush and broad on the persistent finish with suave tannins adding shape. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Presents a smoldering feel from the start with singed bay alder and tobacco notes leading the way for mulled currant blackberry coulis and dark licorice flavors. Picks up a charcoal spine through the finish showing ample depth. Best from 2015 through 2025.

Opaque ruby. Seductively perfumed aromas of spicy red berries cherry-cola blood orange lavender and incense. Sappy spice- and mineral-accented red fruit flavors show palate-coating concentration but no excess fat. Gains energy on the impressively long mineral-dominated finish which is firmed by silky even tannins. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
