Chao Das Rolas 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A blend of Castelão, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Syrah Raw on the nose smoky and with hints of high toned red fruits. Lots of acid on entry support bright strawberry and redcurrant fruit that feel a bit astringent and bristly on the palate. Front loaded with fruit, then structured and acidic on the backend and through the brief finish. Not your typical wine but I can certainly see it having it’s place. 84pts

Really subtle, soft nose of baked blackberries and cinnamon. Reminiscent of a great Douro wine but for much less. Mild tannins hold all of the components of the wine together seamlessly and the fruit continues to become brighter as it opens up. Like a great novel, this wine keeps peeling back layer after layer of enjoyable characteristics. Pair with grilled salmon with a tomato relish.
