Chanson Père Fils & St.-Véran 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

With a history dating back to 1750, this fine Domaine was founded during the reign of Louis XV. When the Chanson family took full control in the 1800s, they already had substantial holdings in Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses, which they added to the business. Ownership of some of the top Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards in Burgundy remains a priority for the house. Their 45 hectare Domaine is managed by Gilles de Courcel and his experienced, dedicated team. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Confuron of the celebrated Vosne-Romanée dynasty continues to improve quality selection of fruit and the refurbished Bastion de l’Oratoire in Beaune is now home to a state of the art fermentation room as well as being the perfect environment for gentle maturation of their crus. The 2006 harvest commenced in mid-September in perfect conditions. Careful selection of grapes in the vineyard and winery have produced beautiful white wines with fantastic acidity. Domaine Chanson Saint Véran is an excellent example of this. It shows pale gold, offering aromas of citrus fruit mixed with vanilla and enhanced by a delicate minerality. This is a wonderfully well-balanced, well-structured and generous Chardonnay with well-integrated acidity with and a beautifully long finish. It is a brilliant partner to charcuterie, sea-food, fish, snails as well as some goat cheeses, so ideal for a summer dinner or garden party.

Chanson survived the Phylloxera crisis and continued to increase the size of their holdings. Visits by appiontment. Read less
