Winemaker's Notes:

With a history dating back to 1750, this fine Domaine was founded during the reign of Louis XV. When the Chanson family took full control in the 1800s, they already had substantial holdings in Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses, which they added to the business. Ownership of some of the top Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards in Burgundy remains a priority for the house. Their 45 hectare Domaine is managed by Gilles de Courcel and his experienced, dedicated team. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Confuron of the celebrated Vosne-Romanée dynasty continues to improve quality selection of fruit and the refurbished Bastion de l’Oratoire in Beaune is now home to a state of the art fermentation room as well as being the perfect environment for gentle maturation of their crus. Beaune Champimonts 1er Cru 2005 benefitted from exceptional weather conditions: a dry and very hot summer after a superb growing season - long and cold winter followed by a rainy and humid spring. The wine subsequently shows a bright ruby colour offering sumptuous aromas of black plum, strawbery mixed with toffees and toasty notes. It is well-balanced and complex with a beautiful aromatic structure, a well-integrated oak note and foursquare fruit tannins. This wine leaves a long aftertaste assuring you will remember this fantastic Pinot Noir. It is superbly matched with red meat, grilled or en sauce, and all cheeses, especially the local cheeses like Epoisses or Citeaux.
