Chandon Sparkling Wine Sonoma County Napa County

External Review:

Rating: 89/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. A palpable sense of refinement and polish sets this bottling apart from mainstream non-vintaged Bruts, and it starts with the wine's sophisticated, mildly yeasty, ever so slightly chalky aromas. A very fine mousse and creamy mouthfeel confirm those first impressions, and, while it is never an especially flashy wine, it is spry and insistent with nicely champenized flavors and a long, brisk finish.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

Domaine Chandon:
Domaine Chandon is one of the most recommended wineries in the Napa Valley, and the only one with its own 4-star restaurant. The winery established its reputation with sparkling wines, and in 1989, the winery began crafting still wines from the classic Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. While showing both plenty of aged, autolyzed, yeasty character and a good sense of energy in the nose, this bottle turns out to be a bit drab and dreary whose flavors dry and fade after a quick burst of frontal sweetness in the mouth. It may be older, but its age has not resulted in richness, and it ends on a slightly bitter note.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
