Champagne Pol Roger Rosé Vintage 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

Pol Roger is one of the few remaining great family-owned Champagne houses. An unrivalled reputation within the trade has been guaranteed by the consistent excellence of the wines: a tribute to the incredible diligence of the selection of the cuvees directed by members of the Pol Roger and de Billy families, in conjunction with the Président du Directoire, Patrice Noyelle, and the Chef des Caves, Dominique Petit. With stock equivalent to five years normal sales, a major investment programme, and among the coolest and deepest cellars in Epernay, the Pol Roger range of Champagnes offers a glimpse of the sublime. Made from 2/3 Pinot Noir with 1/3 Chardonnay, this rose gets its colour from the still Pinot Noir wine added before the second fermentation. The floral nose becomes dominated by aromas of red berries and toast. On the palate hints of crushed raspberry and blackcurrant with a stunningly balanced finish. Superb. Vintage: 2002 Grapes: 66% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay Colour: A fairly deep salmon-pink colour enhanced by a long stream of fine bubbles. Serve: At 8 to 12°C as a perfect aperitif or with delicatessen food, poultry, Thai dishes and mature cheese. Taste: Clean and wonderfully fresh, reminiscent of red and black fruit on the nose and in the mouth the Champagne is supple with a lingering finish.
