Tasted 02/10/2012 Particular cuvée, only from vines of Mesnil sur Oger and not stated as vintage but indeed it is (2008). Straw yellow with a long fine boubbles, white peach and pineapple, citrus notes of grapefruit and lime and then flowers of acacia, typical minerality of all great cru there, chalky notes and iodine. After a while the sweeter notes have moved to the yellow apple. In the mouth it is fresh with great but elegant minerality, the foam is soft, never aggressive. In the mouth you perceive sweet notes of apple and flowers and then close between the mineral and delicate citrine.

Light, greenish yellow. Steely citrus and floral aromas are complemented by notes of chalk and white pepper. Very dry, some would call this austere, offering incisive, mineral-dominated lime and green apple flavors that display admirable purity. The finish is nervy, dry and sharply focused, leaving assertive citrus and spice notes behind. This Champagne would be superb with oysters.

From the Côte de Sézanne, this wine is essentially a single vintage (in this case, 2010). It’s immediately bold and fragrant, with hints of strawberries and green apple over a layer cake of chalk. The purity of the wine is compelling, with scents of fossilized oyster shells that could make it seem like a fine Chablis with bubbles. Vinous and rich, this performs far beyond its price. Grab a case for the holidays.

A range of cool-climate chardonnay flavors fills this wine, from apples to lemon curd. The effervescence brings up zestier lemongrass and ginger scents, finishing clean. A graceful, generous match for boudin blanc roasted with apples.

Winemaker's Notes:

Lovely nose, fresh and lively, but with praline notes to suggest a little richness too. Broad, expansive palate, buoyed up by a gently foaming and very persistent mousse. Lovely, biting acidity. Again just little notes of bread and nuts in the background; predominantly this is a freshly flavored, herbal white fruit style. Straightforward, yet quite delicious.
