What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Light and aromatic with notes of sour raspberries and seared cherry accented by light hints of smoke and stemmy herbs. This is a lighter bodied Pinot with nice definition and cut that keeps this zesty and fresh. The flavors of wild cherry fruits have nice floral and mineral shadings and the soft tannins and nice acid backbone draw out the earthy finish. A very nicely balanced, elegant Pinot Noir. 88pts

Light blackberry flavors mix well with a light minty characteristic. Chocolate and bramble flavors on the mid palate. Nice earthy finish, moving into licorice flavors.

Very pleasant and enjoyable Pinot. Nice fruit with cherry and raspberry aromas. My wife drinks mostly Pinots, but it kind of picky and she loved it.
