Richer than the '03, this wine brims with the most savory Meyer lemon, lime and tart green-apple flavors, boosted and brightened with crisp, minerally acidity. Winemaker Steve Leveque barrel fermented this non-malolactic wine for the first time, to make it a little rounder and creamier. It was a good step; the wine is luscious. - S.H.

At Chalk Hill, extreme selection of grapes and attention to nature direct the production of their Estate Bottled Chardonnay. With over 26 Chardonnay clones planted on the estate, there is an abundance of diversity within the variety. All wines at Chalk Hill are estate bottled (produced at a single winery), but their philosophy goes beyond the conventional definition. Each of their 60 vineyard blocks are tended throughout the year individually. The grapes are then hand harvested, parcel by parcel and fermented in small, distinct lots. This meticulous handling of the vines, grapes and finished wine allows the ultimate expression of Chalk Hill's many and varied terroirs. Chalk Hill's sustainable agriculture has conservation at its root- meeting the needs of the present without compromising the future.

A rich, round and well-oaked style of Sauvignon Blanc. Aromas of tropical and stone fruits enhance the minerality that shines through from the soil on which it is grown.

Winemaker's Notes:

A balanced yet intense wine is the goal for the Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc. Although capable of expressing many different personalities, ourSauvignon Blanc captures the uniqueness of our land. Thewine is lengthy and persistent, a classic effort. Try pairing our 2004Estate Sauvignon Blanc with an Asian-influenced crab salad, withmango/citrus vinaigrette, or traditional Pacific Rim cuisine.
