Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. A slightly different breed of cat is found in this highly expressive, relatively complex and quite full-bodied bottling. Its aromatic blend of sweet cedar, soils, black cherries, currants and vanilla is followed on the palate by deeply fruited flavors tinged with caramel and dried herbs. It is supple to start, has noticeable but softened tannins and promises to age nicely for up to a decade.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

An 8-barrel selection, our 2007 Chairman’s Club Clara’s Vineyard is a Bordeaux-style red blend that represents one very special site on the western edge of the estate. This beautifully expressive wine showcases Clara’s Vineyard, a rocky south-facing hillside, perfect for Bordeaux varietals. Individual barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot were selected to best show off this amazing place. The 2007 vintage was a winemaking dream, with ideal weather throughout the year, giving us an embarrassment of vinous riches. The Clara’s Vineyard blend is the ultimate representation of our estate and the vintage, a rich and smooth wine with a seemingly unending finish. Aromas range from black cherry, currant jelly and chocolate to coffee and porcini mushrooms. The flavors echo the aromas, and include black cherry, dark chocolate, cranberry, vanilla and spice.
