Chalk Hill Estate Winery has a very unique terroir and climate, and when Fred Furth, founder of the winery, flew over the land in 1972, he knew that it had the potential to be a top-class vineyard. Chalk Hill Estate Winery is located in the Chalk Hill AVA, part of Sonoma County, and it is the only estate winery located within that AVA. The land itself borders the cooler Russian River Valley and the warmer Alexander Valley, meaning that the 1,400 acre vineyard has a wide range of soil types and a microclimate that is unique to the region. Lisa Bishop Forbes, Chalk Hill’s winemaker, has managed to take the varied grapes that the region produces and turn them into extremely successful wines, especially Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the winery’s Estate Red. Blackberry, cocoa and a hint of dusty cedar on the nose. Great rich raspberry fruits in the mouth mingle with plum flavors. Licorice and malt on the finish. A meaty, lengthy, wine

Highly aromatic. Flavors of cocoa, dark fruits (blackberry?), graphite with smooth soft tannins and a very long and delicious finish.

Great balance between fruit and structure. Cassis, dried bing cherry and huckleberry alongside grilled herbs, smoked meats and a touch of eucalyptus.

WE 92pts, WA 90+pts - Winemaker Notes - The 2006 CabernetSauvignon shows a great balance between fruit and structure. The wine s multi-layered flavors represent both the sweet and the savory cassis, dried bing cherry and huckleberry alongside grilled herbs, smoked meats anda touch of eucalyptus. The front and mid-palate are fruit-driven and lush, leading toward a more structured, textural finish, indicative of the age worthiness of this Cabernet.

Ripe, full-bodied and richly flavored, with tiers of black cherry, plum, anise and blueberry unfolding gracefully. This holds its focus and ends in a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2016. 4,326 cases made. -JL The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals slightly sweeter black fruits, more body and length, and a richer, fuller style. Finesse allied with substance as well as authoritative varietal flavor suggest it should keep for 15+ years. ** SOLD OUT **
