What to Expect

Arguably the most renowned wines on earth, the classed growths of Bordeaux continue to epitomize the power and complexity Bordeaux blends are capable of. While most wines here are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, both Merlot and Cabernet Franc play important roles in adding layered complexity to the finished wines, and allow winemakers in each commune within the region to use the blend that is best suited to their unique combination of soil and meso-climate. The most famous communes each have their own classic traits with St. Estephe giving full, if rustic wines, from the heavy clay soils, to Paulliac's elegant balance of ripe fruits, minerality and structure to St. Julien's rich blackberry core and supple feel. Moving to the South of the region brings one to Margaux, with its notes of flowers and berries draped over a feminine frame, and then to the Graves region with wines redolent of tobacco, gravel and smoke. To the East lies the famous appellations of St. Emillion, with its wonderfully ripe Cabernet Franc, and Pomerol where Merlot rules the roost and produces deep, plush wines of uncommon refinement.

Editorial Reviews

Cedar, cigar box, green tobacco, loose dry soil, red raspberry, smoky dried strawberry, red currant, a hint of spicy cinnamon and sweet vanilla.

Very well knit with medium body and just a touch of astringent tannin poking through the flesh. The acid is refreshing and the flavors well balanced between the slightly woody, herbal and spice character and the dried cranberry and red currant fruits. The tannins take the upper hand on the cherry toned finish, cutting it a bit short but ends with a lingering flourish of clay soil tones with a hint of dried herbs de Provence. .

Reviews

A lean acidic nose with a dusty character. In the mouth there are flavors of cocoa and an undercurrent of minerality. Ultimately, this wine is young and lean and the tannins dominate.

Complex nose with some prickly white wool. Very tannic and lean in the mouth with a soft lingering finish.

this wine certainly needs more time to age as the tannins are quite powerful. aromas of currant, blackberries, black plums, black fruit on the palate as well but hard to distinguish when the tannins are still harsh. Give 3-5 more years for a better enjoyment.

Very light, red fruit nose mostly of cherries. Flavors are more deep, dark black fruit, tar and leather.
