Gerardo Cesari, as a real initiator, when in 1936 founded the company, he became the creator of the soul, which embodying a care for tradition, his successors continue and encourage today, as an expression of distinction with the very same passion. The vineyards situated in the gentle hills in the province of Verona, as S. Pietro in Cariano where 40 company-owned hectars give birth to the Amarone. In the early sixties Gerardo’s son Franco became directly involved in the company. This event was accompanied by exports to foreign markets, first England then Germany and, in the following years, to larger and prestigious international markets. The range of classics like Amarone, Valpolicella, Bardolino, Soave was extended to include other vines of international reknown as Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, all coming from 100 hectares of vineyards, partly owned by the company and in part by other winegrowers who operate under the careful control of Cesari’s agronomists. Company continuity is represented, in everyday activity, by the new wine cellars at Cavaion Veronese. It is here that the classic wines are produced, refined in wood and bottled with procedures that absolutely respect their most fundamental nature. All of which gives rise to that “soul’ that guarantee of consistency which is itself a virtue. From this is derived the quality and service offered by Cesari, invigorated by the vital initiative skills of new collaborators, which can only encourage, in connoisseurs of “good drinking’ those feelings of intimacy, friendship and good cheer that are the very essence of excellent wines. From the Classico zone, the 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico undergoes three years of oak with stints in large oak cask, barrique and tonneaux. There’s complexity and intensity here with background shadings of dried tobacco leaf, cherry cola, blackberry liqueur and worn leather. The wine shows great integration and smoothness, with just enough tannic firmness to give it importance and cellar longevity. Drink 2014-2022.

A modest version, with walnut, kirsch, rose petal and soft raisin notes that lose some momentum toward the balsamic-tinged finish. Drink now.

The Cesari family has perfected its formula for achieving pure pleasure in liquid form. This is superstar Amarone, with loads of chewy, ripe fruit, decadent dark chocolate, leather, moist pipe tobacco and candied raspberry flavors. Even with all of the richness, extraction and deliciousness, this is an elegant wine. Drink after 2018.
