Cellier du Marquis Saint-Estephe 1997

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £7.50 when I went to collect some other bottles I had bought on the www.bidforwine.co.uk website. It is from the Saint Estephe Appellation in the northern part of the Medoc peninsular and was made by the Marquis de Saint-Estephe co-operative.[ www.marquis-saint-estephe.fr ]It is made up of 50/60% cabernet sauvignon with the bulk of the rest being merlot though there are small amounts of cabernet franc and petit verdot as well and is aged in oak barrels.I started drinking this bottle of wine last night with my supper of beef stew.It is a dry red,the tannins being quite noticable althogh it had softened off a lot on the second day. There is plenty of fruit there;think blackcurrants or plum.Overall I thought it a nice wine and good value for money which I enjoyed although the Chateau Morin Sidaine Saint Estephe I had a couple of weeks ago was a much better standard. ti.0b
