Celler Vall Llach Grenache Blend Priorat Idus 2009

Member Review by ricard:

It's a little closed on the nose, and not easy to discern the fruit, but you can detect hints of tar, liquorice and a brooding sensuality. Very gratifying on the palate, a delicious port-like complexity, evoking memories and sensations of figs, molasses, caramel and rich fruit compote. This wine is paradoxical – it's still young, and therefore needs time to develop, but it's displaying characteristics of a much older wine. I wonder if this means it is flawed in some way and won't age well, but the presence of firm tannins suggests it will. I think it's great, because I love that syrupy liquor-like density. I think this is a 95-point wine, but almost certainly an aquired taste. I should say my colleagues feel otherwise because it lacks vibrancy and nerve. Interesting debate. 15.5% abv, 95 points? As of July 2008, this wine is not yet on the market, it's from a pre-release tasting.
