Celler de Cervoles Red Blend Costers del Segre Estrats 2006

Member Review by Joeri A:

I am tasting the Cervoles, Estrats, Costers del Segre 2003. Waw! What a power and then also finesse in all fields. Fresh acids, ligth sweetness, lots of dark red fruits, confiture, grafit, high minerality, black cherries. The tanins are quite strong but very pleasant and this wine has a long persistance aromatique of 8 to 9. I had it with a bloody côte à l'os with my wife and children. My three sons had a sip, just to let them describe all the things they could recognize. I asked them to scrap the black of a pencil and smell it. they were amazed. The wine brings me back the moments I made confiture last summer in the perigord, from blackberries freshly picked 'en famille', from dark prunes, from black cherries. This wine brings with it a lot of memories and feelings. Joeri, the Obac lover from Antwerp

Dense ruby. Blackberry, blackcurrant and Indian spices on the nose, with hints of cracked pepper and licorice. Fleshy and chewy but at the same time quite fresh, with impressively vibrant red and dark berry flavors perked up by candied rose and minerals. The sweet cassis note carries through the lush finish of this medium-bodied wine, with a suave note of oak spice adding sweetness.

The 2004 Cervoles Tinto is 40% Tempranillo, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Garnacha and 10% Merlot aged for 12 months in French oak, 50% new. Inky-colored, it offers an expressive bouquet of pain grille, smoke, kirsch, and blackberry. This is followed by a forward, medium to full-bodied wine that is oh so easy to drink. Sweet and ripe, with no hard edges, this wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 6ndash;8 years.

Wow! What an amazing, reasonably priced wine. This 1,000-case cuvee, aged 12ndash;14 months in French oak, from one of the appellationrsquo;s highest altitude vineyards (it borders Montsant/Priorat), is a blend of 38% Tempranillo, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Grenache, and 11% Merlot. Fabulously fragrant, with notes of crushed rock, black raspberries, blueberries, and cassis, this inky/purple-colored wine boasts great fruit, medium to full body, fabulous texture and purity, and a long, heady finish. This is a compelling as well as provocative wine to drink over the next 7ndash;8 years.
