Celeste. Torres 2014

Member Review by rckr1951:

Better now that it sat for a few months. The fruit is lovely and enticing - mostly lush red berry with dark cherry nuances, deep seated wood, forest floor, herbal notes and mocha. Deep filling aftertaste. Drink now - Paul 89 points

Torres is one of the world’s most recognizable brands of Spanish wine and is 100% family owned. The company was founded by Jaime and Miguel Torres in 1870, and is now overseen by 4th generation wine producer Miguel Angel Torres. The headquarters of the winery is in Vilafranca del Penèdes in Catalonia, although the family controls several wineries throughout Spain as well as Chile and California. The wines range from entry level premiums, such as Sangre de Toro (the one with the little bull charm on its neck), to quality-driven mid and higher priced ranges, as well as dessert wines and brandies.    A large percentage of the Torres vineyards are organic and sustainable, with efforts to increase those numbers. They also contribute to wildlife conservation efforts with a fund to protect the Bonelli's Eagle in Catalonia and the Condor in Chile.  Read less

Darkest Mediterranean cherry on the nose with musk and perhaps campfire smoke; the entry is deep cherry (100% Tempranillo) with a warm vanilla and slight bitterness (oak) on the back palate. The finish is medium and overall balance is very good. Nice for the price. 88 points.

Decent wine for $8 that went well with a sturdy, spicy italian dish.

A fantastic addition to a 6th anniversary dinner paired with bone-in prime ribeye.

Dunkles fast undurchsichtiges Violett-Rot.

One of Spain's signature red wines, a wine that speaks of the remarkable terroir of the Penedes in Northern Spain. Cabernet Sauvignon is obviously not a Spanish grape but here in this single vineyard it creates a wine that's nothing short of World Class. This 2007 scored 93 points from the Wine Advocate who said "The purple-colored 2007 Mas La Plana displays notes of smoky oak, spice box, violets, black currant, and blackberry in its inviting bouquet. It opens in the glass to reveal a smooth texture, elegant personality, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. Nicely proportioned and with excellent volume, it has a drinking window that extends from 2014 to 2027. Mas La Plana has a demonstrated track record for longevity. I was shown vintages dating back to 1971 that were in fine condition. Especially impressive was the 1981, which at age 30 has an elegance that only maturity can impart."
