Cedarville Zinfandel El Dorado 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

· Jonathan Lachs & Susan Marks, who met at UC Davis, founded the winery in 1995, fulfilling a 15 year dream · Cedarville is named in honor of a nearby ghost town (founded in 1852) that boomed during the Gold Rush · All the wines are produced from the 15 acre estate vineyard at 2500' elevation in the Sierra Foothills. 2006 Zinfandel Theharvest from the 2006 Zinfandel vines was quite small, yielding grapeswith deep, concentrated flavor. Unlike the 2005 vintage, there was noneed to perform a strict selection of our Zinfandel lots to assemblethis wine. All the separate vineyard blocks were delicious! We enhancedthe complexity of the wine by blending in a touch of Petite Sirah andSyrah, and for the first time, a little bit of Grenache. Aromas of darkfruits, blackberries, wood smoke, and root spices lead into flavors ofchocolate, ripe raspberry, subtle mineral notes, and mint, withremarkable structure, and a very long, lingering finish. Serious stuff. Estate Vineyard Blocks: Estate Vineyard, south facing slop near top of vineyard at over 2,500 feet elevation. Blend: 88% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah, 3% Grenache Cases Produced: 754

The incredible combination of quality vineyard potential, Gold Rush-era history, a thriving community of small wineries, and abundant natural beauty convinced us to settle here in Fair Play. We have been frequent visitors to the Sierra Foothills since our college days. Based upon the success of other Foothill wineries and the attractiveness of the Fair Play area, in 1993 we decided to take a closer look to find a property to develop into our vineyard. After several years of searching, we found the perfectly situated 20 acre property located 1/2 mile up a dirt road from Fair Play Road, which would become Cedarville Vineyard. The panoramic views from the top of our vineyard spread from Mount St. Helena to the west to Pyramid Peak in the Crystal Range of the Sierra Nevada to the east. Read less
