Cayuse Syrah Walla Walla Valley Bionic Frog 2007

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

eductive in its overlay of rich, concentrated flavors, with enticing jazzy toasty, creamy oak draped over rich currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit that's tight and focused. Ends with mouthcoating ripe tannins that have great traction. Best fro... Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from Washington in USA. 2007 Cayuse Vineyards Syrah Bionic Frog 750ml

Cayuse is a winery located in Walla Walla, Washington. It was founded in the late 1990s by winemaker Christophe Baron, son of Champagne producers for Baron Albert. On a visit to the area in 1996, he stumbled upon an unsullied bit of rocky soil on the Oregon side of the Washington/Oregon border. He suspected this territory had vast similarities in terroir and climate with some of the most prestigious French regions in the Rhone valley and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Ignoring naysayers, he acted on his intuition and decided to establish vineyards. These types of conditions force vines to dig deep for moisture, resulting in concentrated, structured fruit. He named the wine for the Cayuse, a Native American tribe, themselves named after the French word “cailloux” (“rocks”). The vineyards are mostly planted with Syrah, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Merlot, Mourvedre, Roussane, Tempranillo and Viognier. Shortly after Baron produced his first vintage, he garnered top ratings from the likes of Robert Parker, and Cayuse became a sought after cult wine. The vineyard settlement he founded is now referred to as the “Rocks” area of the Walla Walla valley. Cayuse is also the first winery in the region to practice biodynamic viticultural methods, beginning in 2002.  Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This has tremendous presence, graceful but forceful, playing out its flavors of plum, currant, black pepper and licorice against a background that hints at warm granite, cinnamon bark and bay leaf. Complex and harmonious. Drink now through 2020. 476 ... Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from Washington in USA. 2007 Cayuse Vineyards Syrah Bionic Frog 750ml
