Elegant and refined. Pleasant fruit, spice and cedar flavors, complex aftertaste. Caymus fans note: A Special Selection wasnrsquo;t made in rsquo;93; the estate grapes went into this wine.
hellip;still a deep, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of blackcurrants and sweet vanillin, toasty oak. This backward wine is full-bodied, dense, powerful, as well as tannic. It will benefit from 2ndash;3 more years of cellaring, and keep for 12ndash;15 years.
Attractive creamy, toasty oak up-front, with supple currant and black cherry folding in beneath. Though it remains complex on the finish, it comes up shy in depth and added dimensions compared with previous vintages. Drink now through 2007. Grapes are from the sources normally used for the Special Selection, which was not made in rsquo;96.
In 1993, Caymus didnrsquo;t bottle a Special Selection Cabernet, repeatedly a Top 10 choice, and twice our No. 1 wine. The estate grapes all went into this wine, not an overbearing style of Cabernet, but elegant and refined.
The rsquo;98 vintage was symbolic of manrsquo;s quest to harmonize with what nature has to offer. Due to a cool spring, the vines appeared as if they would have difficulty in ripening by winter. So the folks at Caymus, decided to thin the crop to make sure that the grapes would attain maximum physiological ripeness. Harvest came late, but much to their surprise, the sugar levels exceeded those of previous vintages. the result is a rich wine, with highly extracted fruit that is ripe in overall presence and a firm structure beneath its supple qualities. Some wines take time to mature, but this wine is fast out of the gate and well ahead of the field. Caymus fans, enjoy this wine while yoursquo;re waiting for the rsquo;96 and rsquo;97 to come around.
Supple and creamy-textured, with mocha, ripe plum and cherry flavors that show touches of tobacco, espresso and underbrush. Full-bodied, gaining tannic traction on the finish, elegant and readily approachable. Drink now through 2018. 71,690 cases made. -JL Scarlet color and brackish edges. Nose is sweet fruit and smoked meats. This wine already has some bouquet truffle mushrooms, vanilla style oak. The palate is creamy richness with nuances of leather and a cocoa-style fine grain tannin. The flavors and structure of this vintage are consistent with the Caymus style spice, toast, cassis fully rich, yet supple. - Winery ** Only 9 in Stock **
Generous fruit builds out of this glamour wine, more about top-quality oak and fruit flavor that terroir. Itrsquo;s a fruit bomb, clean and luscious, poised and easy to enjoy. Yet itrsquo;s also tight enough to put away for a few years, and may well develop complexity as it ages.
