Caymus Pinot Noir 1979

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is a touch volatile on opening but really gains excellent clarity with the VA giving added lift to the sweet aromatics of roses, rust, tar, and light red berry fruits. The perfumey character of the wine carries over to the palate where it continues to display significant tannin, yet the wine retains more than enough fruit to give this a rather velvety feel. The fruit is still fresh and red with notes of strawberry and cherry. It’s showing a bit of the winemaking style of the period with it’s slightly extracted and astringent finish but all in all this is a gem of a wine, fully funkafied Napa Pinot – Who knew? 89pts
