Cave de Lugny Mâcon-Villages 2012

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this wine from my local supermarket for £8.50.Macon-Villages is an appellation for the wines produced in selected communes in the Maconaise ie. the area around the town of Macon in the south of the Burgundy region.Where the grapes originate from only one of these communes the name of that commune may be added but where the grapes come from more than one commune,as with my bottle, then the appellation is simply Macon-Villages.The white wines are made from the chardonnay grape.Cave de Lugny [www.cave-lugny.com] is a massive co-operative with an annual production of around 6 million bottles which was founded back in 1927.I drank my bottle at the weekend with my meal of poached fish in cheese sauce with mashed potatoes and it was a superb accompaniment. It was dry and crisp and there was plenty of fruit [think melon or peach with a hint of citrus] but I would not describe it as buttery and it was easy-drinking.The International Decanter magazine liked this as well because they gave it an award for the best chardonnay under £10.I have had better for under £10 and that was the Pierre Chanau white Burgundy I bought in Calais a couple of years ago but that was exceptional.Overall I would say that Cave de Lugny have produced a quality wine at a very reasonable price

Flinty minerals on the nose. Some brisk citrus with tones of green vegetation, golden apple and asparagus. On the palate it has crisp acidity and a nice mouth-watering juiciness. Nice minerality along with flavors of quince, pear, citrus and hints of green. Nicely balanced and made for food, for sure. Lobster mac & cheese, here we come. 87 pts.

Still very young, this wine is potentially crisp while also ripe. Citrus and yellow fruits present a fruit salad of flavors that are balanced by a more steely character. Drink from the end of 2014.

Great buy! Light, vibrant and perfect for summer. Pear, green apple and pineapple notes with just a hint of hazelnut on the finish.

Offers aromas of freshly pressed apples, with a whiff of the sea. Focused and bright, showing fine balance on the lime-tinged finish. Drink now through 2018.

Single vineyard French Chardonnay for under $15! Beautiful stone fruit and tropical notes, with a creamy texture and great acidity. Lovely to drink on its own, but pairs well with appetizers, salads and seafood dishes.

This hand-crafted Chardonnay from the Beluses Vineyard showcases its bright, cheery, fresh apple and peach fruit with notes of vanilla, nutmeg, almonds and figs. Serve it with poached salmon, almond-crusted tilapia, smoked fish or pan-fried chicken with new red potatoes and steamed broccoli.
