Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Of the five or six ($10-20) Malbecs I have tasted thus far, the 2008 Catena is my favorite. This wine has a beet-red glow and a dark berry aroma with floral overtones. Gary Vaynerchuck of Wine Library TV described this wine as sweet, but I disagree. For me, this Malbec displays a strong presence of dark fruit, tobacco, and leather concentrated mostly in the back of the palate (with little, if any, of the mid-palate fructose flavor prominent in many Zinfandels). The flavor is smooth and mellow with a lingering finish of cracked pepper and tannins that will leave you puckering pleasantly and craving the next sip.

Wine Tasting NotesThe Catena Malbec has a deep, dark violet color, with pronounced blackish - purple tones. The aromatic structure is full of ripe dark fruits, floral notes of violets and lavender, and touches of vanilla and spice. The palate begins with sweet black cherry fruits and has a generous texture. There are marked mineral notes as well as layers of chocolate and spicy black pepper. The finish is soft and sweet with ripe tannins and vibrant acidity.

This is serious Malbec: ripe and rich with aromas of blackberries and cherries, it has a finish that lingers on, with black fruits and firm flavors of spice.

Rich and polished, with alluring fig, mocha, boysenberry, ganache and sweet spice notes that glide along creamy tannins and through the long, velvety finish.

Don't miss out on this Malbec. It is ripe and rich with aromas of blackberries and cherries, while the finish lingers with black fruits and hints of spice.
