Quite an alluring aroma, especially berries both raspberry and blackberry. Very smooth tannins and, a pleasure to the palette and on the finish. This is high, if not the top of my list for Argentine Malbecs. Highly recommend.

Really good quality for the price. Wonderful opening, very fruitful.
The nose is a little swampy at first, then a lovely maple syrup note comes across. Then the wine explodes into flavor as it enters the mouth, with bright berries followed a delicious note of stewed prunes. The texture may be a little chalky at first, but give it time to open up. Very nice Malbec, not much to say about the nose and finish other than it was within expectations as a Malbec. $17.95 SDWC
Had the 2010 Notes of raspberry, dark cherries, plum, and chocolate with undertones of loam and earth
Light mouthfeel. Fruity, but not sweet. Medium length finish.
External Reviews for Catena Malbec
Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, redcurrant, licorice, violet and pepper on the nose, plus a whiff of game. Creamy, concentrated and sweet, with a seamless texture to the high-toned blackberry and saline flavors. Offers a thickness of texture and a well-judged sugar/acid balance. Finishes quite long, with very suave tannins.
The 2009 Catena Malbec was aged in 35% new French and American barriques for 14 months. Balsam wood, earthy minerals, spice box, lavender, and black cherry aromas compose the winersquo;s inviting bouquet. Spicy and savory in the glass, with ample black cherry and black raspberry flavors, this nicely proportioned Malbec is an outstanding value meant for drinking over the next 4ndash;5 years.
Full bright ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry, licorice, mint, menthol and musky tobacco, plus an exotic suggestion of white fruit; almost a porty suggestion here. Sweet, lush and silky, with a layered texture to the intense plum and chocolatey oak flavors. As seamless and creamy as this is, it also boasts a high pitch and a brisk quality. Finishes with suave, dusty tannins and a whiplash of fruit. Drink this now or over the next several years.
The 2008 Catena Malbec shows a dark violet color with deep bluish-black tones. The nose offers ripe, concentrated dark fruit aromas with delicate floral notes and traces of mocha. The mouthfeel is rich and lush, with spices, tobacco and a touch of leather. The finish presents soft, supple tannins with bright, crisp acidity and a flinty minerality that gives the wine exceptional length.
According to Wine Spectator - A rich red, with ripe layers of linzer torte, plum pudding and fig paste flavors backed by layers of mesquite, olive paste and grilled herbs. Grippy tannins add weight to the long, vibrant finish.
Offers intense aromas with a soft generous texture and concentrated flavors. Ripe plum and chocolate flavors with a very soft, supple mouthfeel. A core of black currant and cassis, with excellent structure and length. Blackberry fruit with a slight earthy
