Catena Malbec 2007
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
my favorite malbec
Aromatic, powerfull, red fruit, specially raspberry. Lovely wine
Warm, rich, seductive, smooth, full mouth of fruits, deep plum with some tannic raspberry jam taste, not sweet, just full and fruity. At the right temperature, also delightful hints of smoke, tar and graphite (sharp metallic note). This is a glorious decadent medium bodied wine, which is great with just about anything. Low mouthy tannins and a very long finish. Great for drinking anytime.

Bodega Catena Zapata continues to craft outstanding wines that showcase why Mendoza is center stage for world-class Malbec in terms of both quality and consistency. The grapes are sourced from four separate vineyards in altitude from 2,850 to 5,000 feet. Winemaker Alejandro Vigil ages this red for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak (35 percent new). Increased production has not diminished the wine's quality.
Rich and polished, boasting lots of pure cassis, blackberry and boysenberry fruit that courses along, carried by alluring spice, integrated toast and a nice, lingering anise note. Drink now through 2011.
A sleek, polished style, with alluring mocha and raspberry ganache notes leading the way, backed by dark plum, hoisin sauce and graphite flavors that push through the finish. This has serious weight, but stays focused and driven. Drink now through 2011.
Full ruby-red. Musky dark fruits, brown spices, tobacco and licorice on the nose, with a exotic candied berry quality emerging with aeration. Smooth and subtly complex, with soil-driven flavors of dark raspberry, minerals, tobacco and smoky oak. Not as plush or creamy as the 2006 bottling but boasts excellent depth and balance, and a restrained sweetness. Finishes with a fine dusting of supple tannins and excellent length.
Deep purple in color and liberally oaked, but that fits the program at Catena. The bouquet is burly and shows hickory, marmalade and toast, while the palate revolves around boisterous blueberry and boysenberry flavors along with wood smoke and integrated tannins. It's extracted but balanced, and the finish is sweet yet rustic. Drink now through 2011.
Bright ruby-red. Dark berries, graphite and nutty oak on the very ripe nose, with a distinctive peppery lift. The palate offers an almost exotic sweetness to the lush, seamless flavors of macerated dark fruits, mocha and dark chocolate. Not the last word in complexity but pliant, generous and full in the mouth, finishing with lush tannins and an almost exotic liqueur-like quality. This is drinkable already. Some tasters may find this too sweet for a Catena wine.
The purple-colored 2008 Malbec Blend contains 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Bonarda. The wine was aged in French and American oak. It offers up a nose of cedar, black cherry, and plum leading to a dense wine with plenty of savory black fruit flavor, a forward personality, and good length.
