Catena Chardonnay 2013
"The 2013 Catena Chardonnay combines the unique expressions of three high altitude vineyard sites. The wine shows an intense greenish color with yellow notes. The extrordinary combination of these vineyards offer honey and tropical fruit flavors while lending notes of citrus, pears, peaches, and white flowers with a strong minerality and a delicated note of vanilla. The mouthfeel is clean, with a fresh, clean acidity." - importer
Editorial Reviews for Catena Chardonnay
Pretty oaky and creamy on the nose with hints of heather and almonds supporting ripe green apple and almost melonny/pumpkin like fruit. Big, rich and a bit buttery though with plenty of supporting acid. This is a rather flamboyant wine, full of toasty oak spice and vanilla flavors that work well with the honeydew melon and green apple fruit on the palate. The wood takes over on the finish which is a bit short if refreshing. A big, rich Chardonnay with fine underlying tension. 91pts
Four and a half glasses
A finely structured wine, if not generous. The dark honey color is certainly appealing, as is the mix of floral and toasted flavors conveyed to both nose and mouth (where they are joined by touches of anise), but the overall character is still rather austere. (AV 88, http://argovino.com/?p=893)
Offers a distinctive note of orange blossom honey and a reasonably long finish, but without the mouth-filling quality one would expect from Catena’s higher line of wines. (AV 85, http://argovino.com/?p=328)
My Rating 90: i'm not really a white wine fan. This wine is balanced on every level smell and taste. It normally sell above 25 dollars, I got this for 4.- in a supermarket in Florida. That's what I call a Bargain. I would never buy this for $25 but for this money i would buy a case
Appearance Clear, medium minus intensity lemon-green, watery rims with legs. Nose Clean, showing developing and medium intensity aromas of lemon, pear, nut, tropical fruit, pineapple and vanilla. Palate Dry with medium acidity. Medium plus alcohol and medium plus body, showing medium intensity flavors including lemon, nut, lime, white flowers, tropical fruit and cream. Lively acidity coupled with ripe and generous fruitiness. Medium length. Conclusion Very good quality, with a complex aroma and flavors. Plenty of fruit and ripeness to indicate a Chardonnay coming from plenty of sunshine. Balance and with good intensity, as well as a reasonable length. This wine is ready to drink but can be further improve for another 1-2 years.
This wine is well balanced. Green apples, pears, and pineapple. Long finish. Buttery texture. This wine evokes the best of the old and new world styles of chardonnay. We love chardonnay. This bottle for $25.00 is a great value. It holds its own against any of the big California Chards (Nickel & Nickel, ZD, Dumol, etc;) Try it you'll love!

The nose offers ripe white fruit aromas such as pears and peaches that are interwoven with delicate citrus and floral notes, such as jasmine. The palate shows rich and concentrated ripe pear, apple and apricot flavors with a light note of minerality. The wine finishes long and complex with crisp, mineral acidity.

Bright medium yellow. Subtle stone fruits and brown spices along with a carnal truffley nuance on the perfumed very ripe nose. Juicy suave and fresh in the mouth showing a more unctuous texture than the regular 2011 chardonnay but with plenty of framing energy. The peach and ginger flavors display excellent depth. Finishes dry and stony with insistent minerality and a dusty talc-like texture. Under winemaker Alejandro Vigil Catena is now picking chardonnay as much as two or three weeks
Pale golden in color with a nose that is fairly rich and complex. Tropical fruits honey lemon and spice are repeated from bouquet to palate of this special selection chardonnay. Incredibly buoyant and light on its feet for 45% new oak this well balanced and flavorful offering is an incredible value and great alternative to many mid-level Cali chard. Tracey Rose.

Alamos Chardonnay is produced from grapes grown on the eastern (remember east is west in the southern hemisphere!) slopes of the Andes mountains. For more that 40 years, the parent winery, Bodegas Esmeralda, has been making wines from these prime vineyards. This is the best affordable Chardonnay we've tasted from Argentina. Not just a buttery oak bomb like so many of its Chilean counterparts, this one has elegance, balance and finesse.
