Catena Alta Chardonnay 6/Cs Argentina 2009
Mittleres Gelb, funkelnd goldene Reflexe.
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
Offers a distinctive note of orange blossom honey and a reasonably long finish, but without the mouth-filling quality one would expect from Catena’s higher line of wines. (AV 85, http://argovino.com/?p=328)
External Reviews for Catena Alta Chardonnay 6/Cs Argentina
Despite spending just five months on oak staves, the nose is toasty. There's also good pear and banana notes as well as some vanilla. Tasted shortly after bottling; it should round out by the time you're reading this review. The balance seems to be right on the spot.
Yellow colored in the glass, with green highlights and the aromas of fresh damson and mandarin fruit in combination with light vanilla notes. The wine has a soft mouthfeel with a delicate creamy, buttery finish. The cool evening temperatures in Catena's high altitude vineyards allow for prolonged hang-time, preserving the fruits full spectrum of aromas and flavors.
Like virtually every wine from the Catena family, oak is at the lead. You can smell clear notes of butterscotch and wood. In the mouth, a creamy sensation takes over, while flavors of vanilla and lemon carry the show. The finish is long and oaky, with plenty of vanillin. What some might see as overoaked will be a pleasure to others.
Pretty pear and pie crust flavors, with hints of lime and flowers. Nice round texture and good length on the finish. Juicy and very tasty. Drink now.
A consistent winner from year to year, this approachable Chardonnay is ripe with tropical fruits, round and creamy on the palate, with a crisp finish. A rich and attractive package that's hard to beat at this price.
Good pear and fig notes here, with moderate toast. Juicy finish. Drink now.
Straightforward flavors of apple, pear and butter linger through the finish. Drink now.
