The husband and wife team of Niels and Bimmer Udsen established Castoro Cellars with the goal of producing world-class wines from Paso Robles-appellation grapes. Each vintage presents a new challenge and Niels is more than willing to constantly and creatively experiment. This on-going research is only one of the things that ensures they meet their goal.
I've had a few Muscat Canellis in the past few years. They're usually sweet, with lots of honey flavor, but nothing special. This Castoro Cellars blew me away though. Just had it in late June 2008, and it is singing. I didn't know this little grape could produce such complex flavor.. honey, yes, but dried flowers, citrus (tangerine?) and sour apple as well. Really, a lovely little wine from what is becoming one of my favorite Paso Robles producers.
