What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

2005 was a near perfect growing vintage. The grapes had great intensity and color. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine contains Petite Verdot and Merlot to add complexity. This wine is packed with rich berry and full fruit capped with a toasty oak note. The finish fills your mouth with lush flavors that are not blown away with excessive

That's what it would be called if it were candy. It smells like watermelons and cherries up front and then whoa, new matches and cinnamon? Wow, this Cab zings you all over the place, like a wild ride. On the palate it switches things up and offers a more earthy note that comes through like cedar box. There is a hint of sour cherries in this extremely light bodied Cabernet. Wow. Great food wine here!

Like the Castoro '05 Syrah, this wine is bound to pair well with food, and my biggest regret is that I did not have any on-hand when I tasted this wine. The nose is not too extravagant, with black cherries being most prominent for me. The mouthfeel was much more complex, however, with a gripping feel of sour cherries, caramel, hints of green apples, oak - as well as some vegetal flavors. Once again, this wine promises to be great with food...

This wine was ok, it drank like a pinot to me but I am still learning about these differences. What it reminded me of was a boxed cab I had a few months ago, which I enjoyed.

From start to finish, this Cabernet Sauvignon will take you on a ride. The nose is tight at first, but as the wine continues to breath it opens up to aromas of cinnamon and earth. The fruit is surprisingly mixed with cedar - like a slice of watermelon eaten after dropping it in some bark dust. Tart cherries make an appearance as well before the finish. Great acidity, this wine is food friendly and made for the adventuresome! Another great value at $14.95 a bottle.
