Castle Rock Zinfandel Mendocino County 2011
has a slightly musky after taste. Really jammy and not the strong profiles of a true zin. Wouldn't buy again.Add winemaker's notes

Fresh and tasty, and well worth the $13 I spent on it. Nicely balanced with modest tannin, fruit, and a light sourness. It went well with homemade oyster pie and salad - I would get it again.
I really enjoyed this wine. It is good paired with food or to sip alone as a treat. I am typically a white wine drinker and this one is sweet enough that I don't get overwhelmed by the tannins.
I was very hopeful that this budget find would be a diamond in the rough. It has lovely legs, but scant aroma and very bland flavor. Not a "bad" wine, but just a bit too - "nothing there". I even tried using my aerator and little improvement was made. It is not offensive and might be a good table wine for people who don't drink reds often. Nothing to turn any novice away.
External Reviews for Castle Rock Zinfandel Mendocino County
Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. Light and fruity notes start this mid-sized offering out well, and it returns the compliment by being fairly lithe and balanced on the palate with nominal berries and hints of vanilla in its personality. Needing no aging, it is a great choice for the here and now.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

This old-fashioned zin has scents of eucalyptus and iron filings. There’s a cool tone to its sappy fruit, softening the mineral tannin. A simple, gentle red for grilled meats.
An exceptional value in zinfandel, boasting bright, heavy fruit balanced by cracked pepper, violets, and herbal notes. The lasting finish coats the palate with a final layer of delicious, plummy fruit. Perfect for barbecued ribs, chicken wings or chocolate cake.
