Winemaker notes - We carefully handcrafted only 1,100 cases of our 2007 Castle Rock Reserve Petite Sirah, a wine varietal with a history of success in California since the 1880's. The grapes were harvested from vines grown in California's Lake County, an increasingly prestigious Californian appellation. The wine was fermented and then aged for fifteen months in French and American oak barrels. Our Petite Sirah is a dark full-bodied, deeply concentrated wine with full tannins yielding aromas of ripe blueberry, coffee, grain and spice. On the palate it carries layers of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum. Its finish is long, smooth and harmonious with vanilla notes.
Good evocation of a cool-climate Petite Sirah, in all its fruity glory. Dry, crisp and dense in tannins, the flavors are of jammy blackberries, tobacco and plums, with a spicy finish.
A rustic and thickly tannic wine, with good intensity to the roasted, chicory-infused huckleberry and blackberry notes.
